Oh, the places you’ll go!Published: 2018-02-09 05:00
One of the things I love about my job is that it allows me to travel. I have traveled for previous roles, but in my current one I travel more often and to places further away than I have before. This role has taken me to new areas of the world I probably would not have visited otherwise. Most often though my trips take me to our office in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Although I am there several times a year I don’t get to do too much exploring the city because the trips are BUSY. Since I started at Essity the majority of my team has been in Gothenburg. I have learned that meeting in person is so important because you can get twice the work done in person that you can working remotely. And the relationships you build in person make all the difference when you are back home and communicating via Skype. Whenever I need to make real progress on a project I schedule a trip. So when I am in the office I fill up as much time as possible- meeting for projects or just catching up with colleagues.
But I still find some time for myself and on each trip I make an effort to try something new. This time it was staying at a new-to-me hotel and exploring some new shops. For my trip in June, when the weather was much nicer, I took a day trip out to the islands. On my next trip I will likely try to add on some vacation time and head somewhere new- I’m currently leaning towards Oslo.
Even though these trips can be long and take me away from my commitments at home they enrich my work and my perspective. And the airline miles aren’t bad either! 😉
