My Essity AdventurePublished: 2017-11-17 05:48
It’s hard to believe that I have now been at Essity for about two years. The time has flown by!
I joined Essity because I wanted to be able to work in a global role. My first few weeks on the job I was surprised about how truly global my role is. My team is split between the US and Sweden. As a Global Brand Innovation Manager I am responsible for product innovation, customer insights and marketing communications for new product launches. This means learning about customers across countries and regions, where habits and preferences can be very different. It’s a challenge, but a fun one.
Working on a global team has meant I have had to make some adjustments. There is a six hour time difference between Philadelphia and Gothenburg. That means there are only a few working hours a day that the whole team is in the office. And unfortunately, for me those hours are in the morning. This means lots of early meetings. Lots. For someone who used to not get into the office until 9 am or so and ease my way into the work day this was a rough transition. These days I usually have had multiple meetings by 9 and am on my third cup of coffee. It also means I wake up to a full inbox everyday. No easing into the work day anymore.
But there are so many perks to my role as well. I am learning so much about the world and meeting people from across the globe. I love to travel and explore new places. When I first joined I was so excited to visit Sweden for the first time. And it did not disappoint. My colleagues in Gothenburg welcomed me with open arms. Having met in video conferences it seemed like we already knew each other. And, since I was there for the annual holiday celebration we have a chance to have proper team bonding out of the office.
In the last two years, my life at Essity has allowed me to explore Sweden,UK, France, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Mexico and even Neenah, Wisconsin where we have an office. I am sure I will share stories from those trips and may more to come on this blog. I am continually working on my list of places to visit so leave a comment and let me know where I should go.
